6 Steps of Design
At windows by Durrant, we will take care of survey through to installation, leaving our clients able to focus on designing their perfect door. Our window consultants provide hands on design support with practical recommendations, home based design visits, guided showroom tours and detailed specification scopes.
Step 1
Configuration
Front and side doors, side panels and top panel come in a variety of configurations. The ideal configuration should be carefully selected taking into consideration space availability, positioning, property type, light and privacy requirements and style preferences.
Step 2
Material
Our residential doors are offered in 4 material options each boasting their own benefits. It is important to remember that front doors do not need to match the material of other windows and doors in the property and this provides the opportunity to select the qualities you require specifically for your main entrance.

Composite
Composite is the most popular front door material choice and is suited to both modern and tradition properties due to vast design options. With a lifespan of 35 years and virtually no maintenance requirements, this is a sturdy and robust choice for any home.
Composite doors are available in exquisite natural woodgrain finishes and is particularly resistant to colour fading and damage.

uPVC
uPVC offers great value and is exceptionally versatile, enabling you to easily replicate the look of aluminium and timber doors. uPVC is durable and low maintenance whilst offering the highest energy efficiency ratings.
uPVC is a more popular choice for side doors and a suitable front door choice for new build properties and suburban areas. The lifespan of uPVC doors is 30 years.

Timber
Timber provides an authentic traditional feature and a luxurious feel. While suited to both period and modern properties we suggest timber should be your first choice for period properties. Wooden doors offer great energy efficiency ratings and are made of the most sustainable material available.
With the correct care and maintenance, timber doors can last a lifetime.

Aluminium
Aluminium is a very high strength material and exceptionally resilient to colour fading, warping and general wear and tear.
With a lifespan of 45 years, aluminium really is the more durable door option.
The sleek and modern design makes aluminium front doors most desirable for contemporary properties.
Extended guarantees are offered on aluminium frames.
Step 3
Style
Residential doors offer such a wide range of style choices it can be hard to know where to start. Strategically placed panelling and glazed cut out shapes can be used to add elements of depth and style. The overall style and positioning of the door must complement your property. For example, a stable door is best suited to the rear or side of properties, and contemporary tall glass panels are not suited to period properties. Below is just a selection of doors styles available.
Matching Side Panels
Front doors, side panels and top panels come in a variety of configurations, widths and heights. You should first select the configuration right for your property taking into consideration space and style.

Step 4
Glazing
Adding glazed units to residential doors is a great way to let in light and add an additional element of design, but it is always a good idea to consider obscure glazing to maintain your privacy and security. This is especially important when adding large glazed side panels.
We offer of a wide selection with varying privacy levels.
Decorative effects can be created by using lead strips and a variety of patterns and textures. Colours can be added by silvering, tinting, acid-etching or applying ceramic paints.
Sound reduction and security glass are available on all our glazing units.
Step 5
Colour
Our doors come in a wide range of smooth colours and textured woodgrain finishes with authentic colours and textures. Colour is selected individually for internal door, external door and frame.
Timber doors are available in beautiful painted or stained finishes offering an excellent seal from the weather.

Step 6
