Double vs Triple Glazing
To understand the full science and history behind double and triple glazed windows it is best to speak to one of our experienced consultants, but here are ethe high level facts you should know.
Double Glazing
Double-glazed windows are comprised of two panes of glass separated by a spacer bar. The layer of air or gas between the panes provides an insulation barrier against noise and heat loss, helping you to maintain a warmer, quieter home. All our windows come double glazed as as a minimum and comply with building regulations. The only exception to this is listed buildings and conservation areas where regulations do not apply.

Triple Glazing

Triple glazed windows boast an unrivalled A++ energy efficiency rating.
Inserting an additional pane of glass reduces conductivity in order to retain heat in your home. The outer pane allows solar heat in while the centre and inner panes both reflect heat back into the room. Not only will this keep you warm and cosy but could also save you money on your heating bills.

Obscure Glazing

Obscure glass comes in a range of patterns that reduce the level of visibility through the pane providing privacy in bathrooms and other areas. Privacy level is defined on a rating scale of 1 to 5.
Toughened Glass

Toughened glass is four times stronger than standard glass and is designed to shatter into fragments if broken. Toughened glass is required below 800mm for windows as standard to comply with building regulations but can be installed anywhere.

Decorative Glass
Decorative glass effects can be created on windows in a variety of patterns, textures and colours by silvering, tinting, acid-etching or applying ceramic paints. These windows make a great feature in doors and hallways.
Laminated Security Glass

Laminated security glass provides an additional layer of laminate for added protection in the event glass is broken. In addition to the security benefits, laminated glass also offers noise reduction and UV resistance.
Noise Reducing Glass

Sound reduction is created with laminated glass with a polymer layer that is inserted between one of the panes. This absorbs sound waves and reduces the amount of noise that can pass through.
Leaded Glass

Strips of lead can be added to your window to create a decorative finish or replicate period features in traditional properties. There is a wide range of traditional and modern designs available with square and diamond shapes being a popular choice.
Astragal Bars

Astragal bars match the frame of the windows and are applied to one single sheet of glazing in order to visually divide the glass into smaller panes of glass. This gives the effect of multiple panes of glass, as was used in traditional windows, whist adding more privacy and security. Bars can be fitted inside the unit between glass panes or fitted to the outside of the glass sitting proud. When fitted inside the glass unit they are often referred to as Georgian bars.
Deciding the type of bar to use for your windows is a personal preference, however if you live in a traditional property, astragal bars are generally recommended as they provide a more traditional appearance. Both astragal and georgian bars are an excellent choice for modern properties and are suitable for all materials and window types. Bars may be installed in a variety of configuration.
